| Thanks, Pam, for the encouraging words. Sometimes we just need to hear it from other people. I hope this is finding you well! I have been involved in a marketing program that is taking all my time. And I am having success issues with it. *grin* So which way am I going? The way I am lead. That should be the way every author should go. Trust your gut instinct for YOUR book. You really know the answer; it is inside of you! |

I get upset when someone says I am a self-published author. I went through a lot of trouble, stress, and learning to start a publishing company. Yes, the first book I published was mine. Maybe I will publish other people's books and maybe not. I am still NOT a self-published author. I am an author. I am a publisher. I can do one independently of the other. Just because I don't have a big name like Random House doesn't mean I can't be as good, and in some areas even better, than the big name publishing houses. I may not have the outlets they do but I can offer more one on one and closer working with an author. I hope I answered your question. |

| I think that no matter where you go to be published having a good editorial process is the key!! |

In part Fran, it depends on what you want and what the purpose of your book is. There are many people who will self-publish their book and do extremely well with it; clearly they were able to do it without access to mainstream publishers. And it is getting more and more difficult to get something published. The expense, and risk to a publisher are huge espcially if you are "new" to the industry.
The key is to produce a top quality book whether you self publish or are published by one of the big houses. I have been very fortunate to be a part of the top end self publishing experience. Wake Up Women and the Wake Up Live series' of books would be considered self publishing in the strict sense that they created a company specifically to publish and market their books. However, every submission goes through a gruelling 4-tier editorial process and they are backed up by a massive marketing campaign. Sounds like big house publishing to me, and indeed the quality of their books is brilliant. Not exactly what we sometimes think of the self publishing market, where someone is photocopying and stapling.
Hope that helps to answer your question! |

| Lots of us are working on some kind of work we'd like to get published. I have several projects on the go and a list of ideas that's as long as my arm. When you are getting ready, which route will you take to publish, and why? Self publish, look for a publisher, POD, E-books. If you choose to self publish, go the POD or E-book route, will you register your book(s) for ISBN numbers? Why or why not? |
