PostSubject: failure and success   Fri Jul 18, 2008 1:01 am

I'm not in my 50's yet but I think a huge barrier for me has been fear of failure but also, strangely, fear of success. Once we achieve a reputation for being good at something then there can be a bombardment of challenges from people in the wings that think differently or don't agree with our views or methods. These people frequently come at us with a lot of negative energy, for whatever reason, and if we try to defend ourselves or explain ourselves we can get sucked into a vortex of negativity. It's taken a long time but when I'm wrong I have no problem saying so but when I am right I no longer have to justify myself or argue a point. I will let them know I have heard their view and I move on - ever upward!

Hello Kaye and welcome! This place is as good as any for your questions, so let's see what we get. I think that there are probably plenty of things that could hold a woman in her 50s back, but I also want to open it up.

What do you think ladies? What do you think holds women, especially those over fifty, from getting out there and doing all the things they can and want to do?

Hi Folks, First a bit of background: I've had my own training, consulting and coaching business for about 13 years now, and love it--most days! I've been trying my hand at writing in the last couple of years. I have authored one book, "Creating Your Own Success as a Supervisor", have another co-authored by twenty women, just about ready to go to print, and a third in the wings!

I'm just sort of bumbling my way into this forum. It is new to me, so let me know if I make a wrong turn somewhere. I am always fascinated by the way relationships grow. I am really anticipating meeting some great women here. I do have a question I'd love some feedback on, and this may be a new topic--not sure. What do you think holds women, especially those women over fifty, from getting out there and doing all the things they can and want to do.

This site is for people who have a business that they are
motivated to launch into the stratosphere. They may have been in business for
20 minutes, or 20 years, and are either keen on learning more about their
business, or about helping others with their own business development in the
form of ideas, feedback or other suppose. This is NOT a place to sell your
services (although people may want to hire you); it is a supportive community
for business minded people. The impetus behind this forum comes from some amazing
women that I have encountered in groups such as Roaring Women, Wake Up Women,
and Posh Mama.
