There is a report out by the American Management Association called COACHING: A Global Study of Successful Practices that is absolutely fascinating. They interviewed more than 1000 particiaptns and confirmed that companies using a formal measurement process (as in performance review metrics) were more likely to have successful coaching programs. The two are most certainly linked, and it is very rewarding to see that for all the coaches trying to convince people that coaching is a valuable addition to work, the recognition is growing.
You do have to sign up in order to get a copy of the report, but there are plenty of other useful resources there too.
